Police raid illegal gun factory in Lagos, nab two operators
Two suspects were detained by agents of the Lagos Police Command who were running a factory that produced firearms for sale to criminals at Idata Village in the Ibeju-Lekki region of the state.
According to the command's spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the factory was raided on September 11 at around 4:00 p.m., and the two suspects were then taken into custody.
He claimed that this was in response to information the police had about the factory's existence.
Three locally-made single-barrel pistols, one locally-made double-barrel gun, one locally-made single-barrel gun, two locally-made single-barrel long guns, ten spent cartridges, twelve long pipes, two drilling machines, one gas cylinder, one vehicle and other fabricated tools were among the items listed by the police spokesperson as having been recovered from the factory.
According to Hundeyin, the 32 people detained by police for alleged involvement in various criminal activities across Lagos State in the previous month included the two suspects who were nabbed for running the weapons factory.
Hundeyin claimed the suspects were involved in cultism, thieving, armed robbery, adulteration of merchandise, and fabricating firearms while presenting some of the accused to the State Police Headquarters in Ikeja.
He claimed that during that time, authorities found 25 guns, including a toy gun, as well as 74 live rounds, 12 spent rounds, and 12 long pipes on the suspects.
Other goods found, according to Hundeyin, included 251 contaminated wires, two drilling equipment, one gas cylinder, one car, fake tools, two daggers, and one UTC axe.
