Police rescue abducted baby in Lagos market
A baby was discovered in a market in the Shomolu neighbourhood of Lagos State. It was purportedly sold for N800,000 by a maid.
In a since-deleted tweet, X user #Dannysleek had alerted followers on Saturday to the possibility that the kid had been taken by a cleaner employed through an agency.
About two in the morning on Saturday, the baby was reported missing from the Shomolu home by the maid, Ruth Okezie, who is from Anambra State.
The maid was reported to have been discovered in Ikorodu, without the baby, after the story went viral on social media. There, she admitted to selling the child for N800,000.
The infant was found abandoned in Alade Market in the Shomolu region of the state, and the police were able to save her, according to a post made by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, on his X handle on Monday morning.
He wrote, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.
“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.
“Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.â€
#Danysleek also confirmed the report on his X handle.
He wrote, “Good news Twitter fam! The baby has been found. Munachimso has been found!
“She has been reunited with her parents in perfect health! Glory to God forever! Thank you so much Twitter fam for coming through with your retweets! God bless y’all!â€
