Police rescue lecture, detain 200-level university student in Nassarawa
A lecturer at Nasarawa State University's Department of Microbiology in Keffi has been rescued, according to the Nasarawa State Police Command. The lecturer was kidnapped by gunmen on Wednesday.
After the kidnappers broke into the area, the lecturer, Isaac Igbawua, who lives in the Old Barracks in the Kokona Local Government Area of the state, was taken to an unidentified location.
According to a statement released on Friday by the State's Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the rescue operation was carried out in compliance with a directive from Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada.
As per his statement, after learning about the attackers' whereabouts, Command personnel arrived on the scene in support of vigilante groups.
He claimed that the victim was saved after the security personnel engaged the criminal elements in a gunfight.
The police spokesperson additionally disclosed that Daniel Favour Chukwuebuka, a 200-level student in the Federal University of Lafia's Department of Social Works, was detained in relation to the event.
