Police return N1m extorted from corp members

The refund of N1 million that four police officers in the Surulere area extorted from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members has been made possible by the Lagos Police Command.

Oluyemi Fasipe, an X user, claimed that the police in Surulere, Lagos, allegedly extorted N1 million from three unnamed corps members for failing to present a physical copy of a driver's license.

According to the corps member, one of them was coerced by the police to transfer $842 worth of Bitcoin. Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos Police Department, had earlier stated that the policemen involved in the event had been identified and were being questioned.

The impacted police were not identified by the spokeswoman, though. The outcome of the trial will establish the officers' guilt and may result in their termination.
