Police search for tenant as landlord dies during argument over rent
The state's Sagamu Local Government Area's tenant, Mr. Emmanuel, lives in Arigbabu village in Sotubo.
His landlord, Benjamin Apeh, is said to have fallen and died after a fight with him, leading the Ogun State Police Command to search for him. It was said that Emmanuel and Apeh were fighting about unpaid rent.
This was revealed in a statement made in Abeokuta on Tuesday by Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command.
Odutola clarified that Miss Precious Apeh, the deceased's daughter, reported a possible murder case on Monday at 5:00 p.m.
She said that the deceased's daughter had told the police that her father had given his tenant a hard time about not paying the rent around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the spokesman, Precious said to the police that she overheard her father and the renter fighting in front of their home at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, during which the tenant threatened to "kill" him.
According to her, “During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to the NNPC Hospital, Mosimi but was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
“The suspect fled the scene, but efforts are underway to apprehend him.
“Detectives led by SP Temitope Fapohunda visited the scene, took photographs, and further updates will be communicated,” she said.
The PPRO announced that the case was now under investigation.
According to Odutola, the body was placed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, mortuary.
