Police sergeant shoots and kill father in Borno
In the Tudu neighbourhood of the Maduganari village, near the Borno State Police Command offices in Maiduguri, a police sergeant fatally shot his father. It was said that the cop, Linus Wadzani, had shot his father several times.
He is a member of Mopol 6, Maiduguri's Mobile Police unit, and he provides protection for the Borno State House of Assembly.
The deceased was a former assistant superintendent of police, according to command spokesman Kenneth Daso, who briefed reporters at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters on Monday. According to him, the deceased was a member of the Mounted Unit under the state command.
Daso described the situation, saying that Sergeant Linus got home on Sunday at around 4:30 pm and got into a furious fight with the father. This prompted him to shoot him many times with an AK-47, which instantly killed him.
He added that upon the dead Wadzani Natsiri's compound's police visit, a family member revealed that Linus arrived home to find himself alone with his father, and no one was able to provide an account of what had happened.
The spokesperson did, however, clarify that after receiving a distress call, a police patrol unit managed to defuse the situation.
He claimed that Sergeant Linus admitted to using alcohol and other strong drugs during questioning.
He claims that in order to ascertain the sergeant's mental state, a forensic team from the command has been assembled and blood samples have been taken. According to him, an investigation into the homicide has started.
