Police uncover cyber fraud hideout, nabs 34 suspects in Delta

Thirty-four (34) offenders were immediately taken into custody when members of the Quick Response Squad, under the command of SP Collins Arrey, attacked a cyber fraud hideaway in Opete Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.

On March 28, 2026, the suspects were taken into custody.

37 laptops, one iPad, seven cell phones, and a calabash with alleged charms were also found by the police, demonstrating the scope and organization of the operation.

In the police's custody, the suspects are presently cooling off.

In a statement issued to our correspondent in Warri, SP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, verified the claim.

He said, “In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, on 28 March 2026 raided a location in Opete, suspected to be a hub for internet fraud activities.

“The operation was the result of information received from a distress caller who reported that her younger brother sent a distress message stating that he was being held hostage and forced to engage in cybercrime (internet fraud).”

According to the police image maker, “The operation exposed an organized network of young suspects operating from a residential apartment converted into a cybercrime base.

“Thirty-four suspects were arrested on the spot.

“Items recovered include 37 laptops, 1 iPad, 7 mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, indicating the scale and organized nature of the operation. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of their activities.”
