Popular Imo broadcast journalist arrested
A few police officers detained a well-known radio journalist by the name of NonsoNkwa on Thursday morning in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. His name is Chinonso Uba.
After wrapping off his morning show on Ozisa FM, Owerri, which is hosted by Assumpta Cathedral of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Uba was approached and taken into custody by the police.
The operatives who were laying siege to him double-crossed him in front of the Holy Ghost College Secondary School crossroads while he was driving his Highlander vehicle.
An eyewitness claimed to have seen the policeman driving a Lexus 350 Jeep, an ES 330 automobile, and a Hilux.
According to the source, the operatives dragged the activist journalist into one of their cars before speeding away.
His car had been left at the scene.
The source said, “NonsoNkwa has been kidnapped. He was double-crossed by masked men in three vehicles. He drove out of Ozisa FM after he finished anchoring his morning programme. He was traced to the Holy Ghost College Secondary School junction where he was arrested.
“He resisted them as he was shouting they want to kill him before he was taken away in one of their vehicles. His jeep was not taken away alongside him. They were all dressed in black and blue attires, carrying guns while they were masked. They prevented people from making a video of the incident. Let nothing happen to him please.â€
When the incident was confirmed, Rev Fr Raymond Nzereogu, the manager of Ozisa FM, stated that the journalist had been detained by some police officers.
The journalist was being held by the authorities when the priest claimed to have visited the police command headquarters.
Henry Okoye, a spokesman for the state's police, declined to comment when he was approached because he was in a meeting.
