Popular photographer Kola Onifoto dies in Lagos after motorcycle crash

Orowole Samuel Kolapo, often known as Kola Onifoto, a well-known Nigerian photographer and motorcyclist, passed away following a motorbike accident in Lagos' Kara neighborhood. He was thirty-five.

The travel enthusiast and brand influencer was reportedly engaged in the crash on Sunday while riding a motorcycle outside of Lagos. The motorcycle was a recent purchase for Kola, who was also an e-hailing driver.

According to sources, he made the purchase after his landlady in Lagos gave him a vacate notice, which caused him to go to Otta, Ogun State, even though he was still employed in Lagos.

A few hours prior to the disaster, he had announced on his official Facebook page that he was riding his bike to Akure.

“Big shout out to those who have ridden their bikes to every state in this country, to Africa, and across the world, especially women. My eye see wheeen,” he wrote on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

He was initially sent to the Federal Road Safety Corps emergency unit at 7UP, Ojota, after friends posted on social media that he had been involved in an accident.

Following his relocation to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba, friends, admirers, and well-wishers continued to pray for him on social media. But in the late hours of Sunday, March 1, he passed away from his wounds.

Online tributes to him have proliferated since his departure, with many characterizing him as a morally decent and compassionate person whose demise was unexpected. As they grieve, the Orowale family has formally announced his passing and asked for privacy.
