President Tinubu orders release of minors on trial over protest
Yesterday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to prosecute any public servant found guilty in connection with the August #Endbadgovernance protests involving kids and other suspects.
Tinubu gave Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, instructions to guarantee the prompt release of any minors facing prosecution related to the #Endbadgovernance demonstrations across the nation.
Reuniting the detained youngsters with their families was another request made by the president to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
Last week, pictures of the jailed children went viral online, inciting widespread indignation and resentment towards the Tinubu administration.
The children were among the suspects who were arraigned at the Federal High Court's Abuja Division for allegedly taking part in the August countrywide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.
Among other charges, the suspects were on trial for treason. The trial of juveniles for treason and other charges stemming from their involvement in the protests was denounced by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).
However, Tinubu's decision to order the release of the juvenile suspects was praised by Senator Sani Musa, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
