Public Defecation: Violators to pay N25,000 fine in Kano

In an effort to improve the state's cleanliness and aesthetics, the Kano State House of Assembly approved the Kano State Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025. 

Anyone found urinating, defecating, or polluting in a public area faces a punishment of N25,000. 

Alhaji Jibril Isma'il Falgore, the Speaker, presided over the plenary, which included discussions on the committee of the whole and the third reading of the bill by the deputy clerk, Alhaji Nasiru Magaji. 

The bill's designated agency will be in charge of establishing gardens, growing flowers, and stopping careless trash disposal.

According to the majority leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala,” the bill imposes a fine of N25,000 on anyone caught littering, urinating, or defecating in public places.

“The agency will also prevent the indiscriminate dumping of trash and spitting from moving vehicles, checkmate open defecation, and make the city look beautiful”.

He clarified that the bill's designated agency would be in charge of establishing gardens, growing flowers, and stopping the careless disposal of trash on highways, drainage systems, roundabouts, and bridges. 

The majority leader pointed out that, : “the agency will be governed by a board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including professionals, like architects, who are knowledgeable in engineering and beautification.”

In a separate move, the House urged the state government to build a road in Nassarawa LGA from Kwanar Masalachi to Giddan Kuka-Yan Tipper-Badawa layout.
