Putin proposes to host next BRICS summit in Russia
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has offered to host the BRICS alliance's subsequent conference.
After being unable to attend the gathering in South Africa this year due to an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against him, Putin made the offer.
Putin invited the representatives of the other member countries Brazil, India, China, and South Africa to the Russian city of Kazan in October 2024 in a speech that was broadcast by video to the gathering in Johannesburg.
It will be decided on the precise day through diplomatic procedures.
More than 200 political, economic, and social events will take place in the upcoming year while Russia holds the BRICS chairmanship, according to Putin.
The summit of significant emerging economies for this year runs through Thursday.
Because South Africa is a member of the ICC, Putin might have been arrested if he had come in person due to the ICC warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.
Putin criticised both the West and Kiev in a video speech to the summit's leaders, reiterating Russian explanations for terminating a grain export agreement with Ukraine.
Attending the summit in person are the leaders of China and Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, and Narendra Modi of India.
