Representative committee to issue arrest warrant to Binance executives
A House of Representatives committee has decided to issue arrest warrants for executives of the cryptocurrency platform Binance.
During a hearing on a petition filed against the cryptocurrency company on Monday, the Committee on Financial Crimes issued the decision.
The Nigerian government has been taking action against the corporation, with this being the most recent.
Recall that two Binance executives were reportedly detained by the Nigerian government on suspicion of funding terrorism and money laundering.
The Committee will recommend to the whole House that the executives of Binance be placed under arrest, according to Committee Chairman Obinna Ginger's ruling.
He clarified that the purpose of the arrest warrant is to guarantee the executive's appearance before the legislature.
The attorney for Binance, Senator Ihenyen, went before the Committee and gave a written statement on behalf of his client; nonetheless, the MPs disregarded his advice.
According to Ihenyen, the company's board is afraid to travel to Nigeria for fear of more government arrests.
