Rescue team discovers $2m buried in Turkey earthquake ruins
After the devastating earthquake that shook the area, search and rescue workers in Turkey found $2 million buried in the debris of one of the collapsed buildings.
The team could be seen removing the cash off the ground and placing it in a bag while they counted it in a video that went viral on social media on Monday.
The money is thought to belong to one of the earthquake victims.
According to The PUNCH, Syria and Turkey were both struck by two catastrophic earthquakes on February 6 with magnitudes of 7.5 and 7.8, respectively.
Almost 46,800 people have died as a result of the earthquake that hit both countries, which Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has dubbed "the calamity of the century."
Many foreign organizations and nations have donated to Turkey and Syria in response to the United Nations' ongoing call for additional funding to support rescue missions.
Christian Atsu, a football player from Ghana, was one of many who perished in the earthquake. His remains were flown back to Ghana to be buried three days after his body was found.
Initial claims that the footballer had been saved the day after the earthquake proved to be untrue, and his body was discovered on Saturday.
Prior to joining Turkish club Hatayspor last summer, the Ghanaian played for Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle in the Premier League.
