Residents beat 22-year-old tailor to death in Lagos

On the grounds that he was a snitch for armed robbers, inhabitants of Lagos Island beat a 22-year-old apprentice named Hakeem Mujib to death.

The deceased had stopped at his colleague's house at 2 a.m. to pass the night after leaving to deliver some clothing to a nearby tailor, according to information obtained by The Guardian.

The victim's coworker, Kehinde, resides in a two-story building with his attackers.

According to sources, as the Oyo State-born Mujib knocked on the door, residents of the building suspected him of being a spy because the person he identified as his friend did not reside there.

Residents are said to have surrounded Mujib and battered him to death rather than opening the gate for him. He might be a spy for armed robbers, they alleged.

According to the source, the victim's pleas that his attackers understand that he was an apprentice on a job for his master went unanswered as they beat him with hazardous weapons till he passed away.

Residents of neighbouring buildings reportedly came to the victim's aid when they heard him being attacked, but his attackers blocked their access.

Before representatives of the Community Development Association (CDA) and other residents could arrive, his lifeless body was deposited at the building's gate as the perps fled the scene.

Later, as emergency personnel transported the body to the mortuary, the incident was reported to the Lion Building police station.

Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, denied knowing about the incident when he was reached.

At the time of publication, he had not yet contacted the Lion Building as promised and provided a status update.
