Retired teacher arraigned for allegedly molesting two boys in Anambra
In the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, a 60-year-old retired teacher named Ike Okoye was docked on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting two boys.
Okoye, a resident of Okpoko village in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, is facing charges from the police for molestation and unnatural offence. Insp.
Chinyere Okechukwu, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the accused had committed the alleged crime in 2013 in Isuofia.
He claims that the offence violates the terms of Section 197 of Criminal Code Cap. 36 Vol. ll of the 1999 Revised Law of the State of Anambra in Nigeria as Amended. However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The accused was granted bail in the amount of N200,000 with one surety in the same amount by Chief Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe. She postponed the case's hearing until August 21.
