Rivers Governor Fubara approves 85k minimum wage for civil servants
Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has authorised N85,000 as the state's minimum pay for civil servants.
At a meeting with organised labour groups on Friday at the government house in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers, the governor approved the minimum wage for workers.
George Nwaeke, the chief of the Rivers State civil service, told reporters during the sit-down that the minimum wage would be implemented starting in November.
“He (Fubara) has announced a figure that is higher than the national minimum wage. He has set a sum of N85,000, which is above the minimum wage prescribed nationally,” Nwaeke said.
“As the head of service and a major stakeholder in the labour family, I am very pleased to say that Rivers state civil servants have never had it this good since the inception of this state.
“The labour union leaders and all the other major stakeholders were pleased with this development.”
