Rivers govt starts demolition of assembly building
The State House of Assembly building on Moscow Road in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area is being demolished by the Rivers State Government in order to make room for reconstruction.
The state government was carrying out the project, according to a government source.
This occurred a few weeks after unknown political goons set fire to the state assembly's sacred chambers.
Recall that the attempt to remove the current governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, by certain lawmakers sparked a major crisis within the state's legislative branch.
On Wednesday, however, more than ten bulldozers, excavators, and other large machinery were brought to the assembly complex as early as five in the morning.
The demolition started at 7:30 a.m. The process is still in progress as of the time this report was written.
