Rivers police arrest 10 suspected kidnappers at hideout
Ten suspected kidnappers were detained on Saturday during a raid of a criminal hideout in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, according to the Rivers State Police Command.
The accomplishment, according to the command, was made possible by agents under the direction of state commissioner of police Olatunji Disu combing through shrubs and demolishing the suspected kidnapper's camp behind the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Igwurita, an outlying area of Port Harcourt that was thought to be a haven for criminals.
Adepoju Olugbenga, the deputy commissioner of police for operations, as well as a few area commanders, tactical unit heads, divisional police officers and command officers, accompanied the CP.
The CP was accompanied by Adepoju Olugbenga, the deputy commissioner of police for operations, as well as a few command officers, tactical unit heads, area commanders, and divisional police officers.
Speaking with reporters following the operation, Olugbenga said that the command was worried about the recent actions of alleged kidnappers, which included terrorising the Obiri-Ikwerre-Airport Road area near the state capital.
He also disclosed that more than a dozen makeshift tents in camps abandoned by the kidnappers had been destroyed.
Olugbenga said, “It is a routine exercise. We normally go on a show of strength once or twice weekly and we mostly patrol vulnerable points where we feel we are having issues with hoodlums trying to disturb the peace of the state.
“You would have observed that within these few days, there have been issues of hoodlums trying to waylay people going to the airport.
“We have deployed a lot of operatives in that axis and as part of our routine as directed by the Commissioner of Police to ensure that the state is free of crime and criminality we have to move in there. He (the Commissioner of Police) led the team to the place and distributed everyone to all angles of the bush.
