Rivers police arrest four officers for allegedly kidnapping hotel worker

Four agents who were allegedly involved in the adoption of hotel workers in Port Harcourt have been confirmed to have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command, which has since demanded a ransom to free them.

The hotel employee, only known as Darlington, was allegedly stopped by police last Friday at approximately 8 p.m. while he was travelling to work in the Obio/Akpor local government area of the state, close to Choba.

According to what our correspondent learned, the police searched the man's body and phone but turned up nothing that would have implicated him.

But the policemen allegedly kidnapped the man and threatened to kill him, just as they had done to some other victims who had refused to cooperate with them, after they found out where he was working.

The operatives had even threatened to dispose of his body in the Choba River after his death, all the while demanding the one million naira ransom. They labelled him as a kidnapper as well.

The man was allegedly tied up inside a car by the police, who then followed him around the town of Aluu in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State until they managed to take him to a bush.

However, the police officers' luck ran out when the Divisional Police Officer learned of the situation. He then disguised himself and began negotiating a ransom payment with the rogue officers, posing as the victim's father.

The DPO then begged them to meet him at a specific place so that he could give them the ransom of one million naira. However, when they arrived, the DPO and his team arrested and disarmed them.

At a Port Harcourt event, state Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu confirmed the officers' arrest and stated they were in custody.

CP Disu stated, “I heard about that incident on social media, and despite that, I went to town with my officers to work on it.

“I’m confirming to you that officers who had contact with that victim have been arrested. I’m waiting for complaints from the victim to know what and what to really look out for.

“The officers are there. We are not hiding anything and when the complaints come we will give you further details on what we have done about it.”
