Rivers Police arrest man wanted by EFCC
The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a man who has been on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) wanted list for the previous four years.
'Chief,' also known as Joel Mba Okodi, lived at Abak Road in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State.
It is stated that Okodi is a Director of the Ikot-Ekpene-based Chismo Resources Limited.
The EFCC detained the suspect after he fraudulently collected N50 million from Chief Okosisi, according to a statement released by the Rivers State Police Command.
In order to obtain bail, Okodi convinced his friend Ochoa Okeokwu to act as his surety while the fraud case was being investigated, according to a statement made by Command Public Relations Officer Grace Iringe-Koko.
Okeokwu provided his property documents, which are worth N50 million, to the Port Harcourt EFCC office as collateral.
Following his release on bond, Okodi avoided all calls and did not show up for his inquiry at the EFCC headquarters.
When he answered the phone, he occasionally threatened Okeokwu with violence in order to get him to stop talking to him.
Because of this, Okeokwu was compelled to file a petition with the Inspector General of Police, who then referred it to Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police for the State of Rivers.
Following the IGP's orders, Disu gave the Operation Sting operatives instructions to make sure the suspect was apprehended as soon as possible.
After carrying out a thorough investigation, the officers found that the suspect was hiding in Apapa, Lagos, specifically at Ajegunle.
Disu has cautioned the public about stepping in as sureties, even though the statement stated that the EFCC is currently handling the case.
