Rivers police arrest six suspects over murder of DPO
Following an ambush by a rumoured Iceland cult group, Rivers State Police Command agents have detained six suspects in connection with the grisly murder of Superintendent of Police (SP), Bako Angbashim, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East Local Council, on Friday in Odumude Forest.
In a statement released yesterday, the command's spokeswoman, Grace Iringe-Koko, claimed the suspects were apprehended in the neighbourhood using locally made firearms and assorted charms.
Iringe-Koko claims that last Saturday at around 6:00 a.m. in the Odumude community, the State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, his management team, and tactical units undertook an operation to recover the deceased DPO's body and carry out an on-the-spot evaluation of the community.
She said: “During this operation, six suspects were apprehended. Among the items seized from them were a locally crafted pistol and various charms. These suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt.â€
However, she added that the division now has a new DPO, Zuokumor Richard, who is supported by tactical teams, one-third of a unit from Mopol 19, 56, and half of a unit from Mopol 48.
“He has been tasked with a thorough search of the area, apprehension of the culprits responsible for Angbashim’s demise, recovery of the body, and location of any operational weapons used. This operation will continue, while the investigation remains ongoing,†she said.
