Rivers police dismiss inspector for extorting $3,000
Inspector Michael Odey has been fired by the Rivers State Police Command due to his involvement in a $3,000 extortion case.
Two Assistant Superintendents of Police, Talent Mungo and Doubara Edonyabo, along with Odey, were charged with kidnapping and extorting two individuals.
The three officers then quickly transported their gullible victims to three different states and took away the stated sum, which is equal to N4.2 million.
However, according to the state police command's spokeswoman, Grace Iringe-Koko, the money has been found and given to the rightful owners.
Iringe-Koko said in a statement on Tuesday in the state capital of Port Harcourt that Odey had been let go from the police following the end of the orderly chamber processes.
She went on to say that although the two ASPs have been recommended for termination, their case will be examined for a "fair and just resolution" by the Police Service Commission and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
