Russian Billionaire Offers $1 Million Bounty On Vladimir Putin Arrest

Alex Konanykhin, a Russian businessman based in the United States, has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin in his involvement in the invasion of Ukraine.

He posted it on social media, along with a picture of Mr Putin and the caption "Wanted: Dead or alive," he made headlines and sparked debate. "Vladimir Putin is responsible for mass murder."

"I promise to pay $1,000,000 to the officer(s) who, in the course of their constitutional duty, arrest Putin as a war criminal under Russian and international law," he added.

The post was later removed from Facebook, but Mr Konanykhin said that he did not intend for his words to incite someone to kill Mr Putin. Rather, he insisted on putting Russian President Vladimir Putin on trial.

"I’d like to make it explicitly clear that my offer is for an officer who, in fulfilling his constitutional duties, can arrest him for war crimes committed under international laws," he said.

"As much as millions of people, including me, would celebrate the news of his death, I’m not offering any bounty for his assassination. That would be illegal."

He added: "And I also think it would be wrong, because he has to be brought to justice in front of a competent tribunal."

The 55 years old Konanykhin was a former banker who now runs several technology companies after moving to the United States with his family in 1992. According to his company's website, he founded Russia's largest bank at the age of 25.

According to reports, Mr Konanykhin's time in the United States and his relationship with Russia were not easy. He was tried twice for allegedly violating the terms of his visa.

According to reports, Russia accused him of embezzling money, which he denied. Political asylum was eventually granted to him.
