Sagamu Cult killings: DSS arrests Ogun lawmaker, five other suspects
DSS agents in Ogun State have detained Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, a member of the State House of Assembly (OGHA), for his alleged involvement in the rival secret cult clashes that took place in Sagamu town over the weekend and resulted in the deaths of eight people.
The lawmaker, who was just elected to represent Sagamu State Constituency 1 on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform, was detained together with five other suspected members of a cult who were reportedly involved in the cult violence.
The DSS agents detained the five other suspects, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade, after a sting operation following a tip-off at the lawmaker's home early on Thursday.
Lekan Adeniran, the Governor Dapo Abiodun's Chief Press Secretary (CPS), stated in a statement that the DSS had followed the six suspected cultists to the lawmaker's official residence since Wednesday, where he was reportedly giving them sanctuary.
Adeniran revealed in the statement that various hazardous items, including guns, had been found on the suspects and that they were now being interrogated in DSS custody.
According to LEADERSHIP, the same Hon. Bello was previously detained by the DSS in February of this year for allegedly organising the violent protest that occurred in Sagamu, where enraged youths vandalised about 10 banks and other public infrastructure in protest of the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) naira redesign policy.
