Secondary school students assault teacher for preventing exam malpractice in Ogun
On Sunday in Abeokuta, the police command in Ogun said that its officers had detained 10 Senior Secondary School (SSS) pupils who had allegedly assaulted a teacher.
SP The victim, Kolawole Shonuga, formally reported the alleged attack to the police, according to Omolola Odutola, the police public relations officer in Ogun, who stated the arrest of the students followed.
The instructor had claimed to the police that he had stopped one of the students from engaging in cheating during a test at the institution.
At Ishanbi Comprehensive High School in Ilisan-Remo, the state's Ikenne Local Government Area, the incident happened on Tuesday.
According to reports, Mr. Shonuga found one Ashimi Adebanjo cheating during the combined exam for the SSS 1 art class kids.
He then took the exam paper from the 18-year-old student.
It was claimed that some pupils organised a gang after school hours to kidnap the teacher at the school's entrance.
They beat him up by hitting him in the head with a stick.
Ms. Odutola revealed that 10 pupils were eventually detained by Remo Division police after they pounced on them.
“The police have commenced investigation into the assault on the teacher, and the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,†she said.
Felix Agbesanwa, the state chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ogun, expressed disapproval of the incident in his response.
To act as a deterrence, he insisted that the pupils bear the repercussions.
“The incident really happened, and I have been briefed. Our stand is that any student who raises his hand against his teacher should face the wrath of the law,†he said.
