Security forces have detained three suspected members of a well-known abduction gang that is allegedly behind the August 2 attack on St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Inoyi-Affa, in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Police, Enugu State Forest Guard, and other security officers collaborated to capture the suspects.

Four AK-47 firearms and ammo were found in the group, and one alleged kidnapper was killed during a gunfight with the security personnel.

When Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, visited the state DSS headquarters on Monday nite to examine the detained suspects, the development was made public.

Two of the three victims kidnaped during the August 2 attack—Seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi—have been rescued, according to Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government, who was speaking on behalf of the governor.

Both victims had recognised the detained suspects as the individuals who had kidnaped them, he continued.

“There was one fatality in this process. It was one of the criminals that died in the process of apprehending them. Usually, criminal elements will not want to be apprehended easily without a fight, but our people were ready, and we have one fatality, while the others are here now as you can see; and they will face the full wrath of the law,” he declared.

According to Onyia, the state government will keep using its security architecture to stop illegal activity and guarantee that criminals are prosecuted.
