Senator Abbo accuses Akpabio of plotting his removal, planning to remove five others
Senator Elisha Abbo claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio planned to have the Court of Appeal remove him from office.
On Monday, hours after the Court of Appeal invalidated his election to the Senate, Abbo made this accusation in his Abuja home.
Senator Orji Uzor Jalu, the former top whip of the senate, and four other senators, according to the senator from Adamawa, will be removed from office because they did not support Akpabio's candidature for the senate presidency.
Abbo appealed to his supporters despite the decision and called the decision that resulted in his dismissal a coup against democracy.
The senator argued that he won the election even though the court recognised Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the victor of the February contest.
He claimed that he outperformed the PDP candidate by a margin of 11,000 votes.
Recall that Abbo was fired earlier today by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
The All Progressives Congress, APC's Abbo was declared the legitimate winner of the Senate seat by the tribunal in an earlier ruling that was overturned by the appellate court in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices.
It concluded that the appeal filed by Amos Yohanna, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate for the election, had merit.
In 2019, Senator Abbo made headlines for the wrong reasons after he assaulted a woman, Ms. Osimibibra Warmate, in an Abuja sex toy store, ending his attempt to win re-election.
After the event, a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the politician to pay the woman N50 million in damages. A panel of the appellate court led by Justice Jamilu Tukur later upheld this ruling.
The troubled legislator also encouraged his fans and people to maintain their composure while confirming his dismissal from the parliamentary chamber in a post he wrote on his official Facebook page on Monday.
