Senator Danladi declares he will not support Buhari and Lawan impeachment
Danladi Sankara, a senator from Jigawa North West Senatorial District, said on Saturday that he would not support the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari or Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, despite the opposition Peoples Democratic Party senators' outbursts on Wednesday that came before the threats of impeachment made against the president.
In response to rumors that some All Progressives Congress (APC) senators were also siding with opposition senators, Sankara, an APC member, declared his views.
Senator Sankara revealed that there were plans afoot to remove the Senate President in order to facilitate the impeachment of President Buhari, given that Lawan might not permit the impeachment plot to come to light when lawmakers reconvene in September.
The lawmaker, who serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, distanced himself from the allegations that he was involved in the conspiracy, stating clearly that he would not do so for whatever reason.
"I dissociate myself from the purported scheme by some Senators to remove Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan as Senate President.
“The report linking me with the plot by certain online publications to impeach the Senate President is not true and let it be known to everyone that at no time was I consulted or co-opted into such a plan by the eleven other Senators allegedly masterminding the plot.â€
He insisted that the report was a fabrication created by its authors.
The lawmaker insisted that he attended plenaries on Tuesday and Wednesday and that neither a member of the opposition nor a member of the ruling party approached him with an impeachment plot. He added that if this had occurred, he wouldn't have given his consent.
