Senator Solomon Adeola emerges the winner of the Ogun West Senatorial election
Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, a senator representing Lagos West, was declared the winner of the Ogun West senatorial primary election of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Adeola, who ran as the party's candidate for senator in the 2023 general election, won by 294 votes over incumbent Senator Tolu Odebiyi, who received no vote. The exercise, held at Oronna Hall, Ilaro, was attended by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials led by Kolapo Ademola, party officials and security agents, including soldiers, who were on the ground to maintain order and ensure security.Â
Senators Adeola and Odebiyi and their agents were also present at the exercise, which was overseen by Gbenga Odukoya, head of the electoral body. 295 delegates from five local governments of Imeko Afon; Yewa South; Yewa North; Ipokia and Ado-Odo/Ota were accredited for the exercise, but one voter abstained, casting a total of 294 votes. While declaring the primary election results, Odukoya stated that "Senator Adeola, having received a total of 294 valid votes to defeat Adebiyi, is the APC's nominee for senatorship for Ogun West." After emerging the winner, Adeola spoke with journalists and in his statement pledged to work for the party's victory in the general election. He also thanked Gov. Dapo Abiodun for allowing internal democracy in Ogun's APC while asserting that he would provide quality representation if elected Ogun West Senator in 2023.
