Seven dies in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash, 11 injured
Around 9:33 p.m. on Monday, there was a crash near the Ogere sector of the Lagos-Ibadan motorway that resulted in the deaths of seven people and the injuries of eleven more.
A truck without a number plate and a Mazda bus with the registration number MNY894 were both involved in the collision. According to reports, the Mazda bus lost control due to its high speed and struck the truck from behind. This was revealed in a statement provided to journalists on Tuesday by Florence Okpe, the spokeswoman for the Federal Road Safety Corps' Ogun State Sector Command.
According to Okpe, the deceased were interred at the FOS mortuary in Ipara, while the injured were transported to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical care.
The statement partly reads “The crash occurred at 2133 hrs last night with a total of 18 persons involved which comprised 15 male adult and 03 female adult.
“A total of 11 people were injured (09 male adult and 02 female adult) while 07 Persons were recorded dead from the crash. 05 male and 02 female.
“Vehicle involved 02 a truck with no registration number and a Mazda bus MNY894 YN”.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Mazda bus driver who rammed a moving truck from the rear.
“The injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS morgue Ipara”
Anthony Uga, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, has advised drivers to obey the speed limit because visibility is often poor at night and in the rain.
