Shettima leaves Abuja for BRICS summit in Johannesburg
Kashim Shettima, the vice president, has left Abuja for Johannesburg in order to attend the 15th BRICS Summit.Â
At the bloc summit for heads of state and government taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, the vice president is anticipated to represent President Bola Tinubu.
This was announced in a statement released on Thursday by Olusola Abiola, Director of Information for the Office of the Vice President.
Shettima will attend the Summit, which will take place from August 22 to 24, along with other commercial and political figures from around the world.
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, President Xi Jinping of China, President Luiz Lula da Silva of Brazil, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India are among the world leaders anticipated to attend the summit.
The head of the African Union Commission, the secretary-general of the United Nations, and the president of the New Development Bank are among the other well-known individuals invited to the summit.
The summit is anticipated to discuss topics like global governance reform, sustainable development, innovation, and the facilitation of trade and investment.
While concentrating on international geopolitics, commerce, and infrastructure development, it will also continue to reach out to leaders in Africa and the global South.
The BRICS group of developing and emerging economies includes South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, and China.Â
