Soldiers set Ogun police station on fire
On Wednesday, soldiers in Nigerian Army uniforms raided the Ogijo police station in Ogun State after an alleged police assault on a soldier.
The "soldiers," who had assaulted the station without their name tags, set it ablaze after the raid.
Numerous people were hurt during the incident, including some police officers.
Throughout the duration of the attack, there was chaos in the vicinity as bystanders ran for cover.
According to a source, the troops, who were from the 174 Battalion Odugunyan in Ikorodu, Lagos, were taking revenge for an earlier fight between a soldier and a police officer.
During the altercation, the policeman is alleged to have stabbed the soldier in the chest.
According to reports, the soldiers were enraged by the policeman's actions, who afterwards sought safety in the Ogijo police station.
“Our station is under heavy assault by men of the Nigerian Army from 174 Battalion Odogunyan. They have set the station on fire due to an earlier quarrel between a mobile policeman and a soldier. In fact, earlier today a soldier and the mobile policeman engaged themselves in physical combat, leading to the mobile policeman overpowering the soldier with a leather punch,†the source said.
It is yet unknown whether police officers were assaulted, hurt, or killed during the attack on the station.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, responded to inquiries about the attack on his official Twitter account. Although it is extremely close to Ikorodu, Lagos, we want to make it clear that the unrest is in Ogijo, Ogun State.
“Our officers are on alert and would not allow any breakdown of law and order within Lagos State."
The military hasn't responded to the report yet.
