South African rapper AKA shot dead
According to IOL News, the well-known South African rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes was killed in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road in Durban, South Africa, on Friday night.
According to the South African news source, AKA's security and another person were both injured. Another unnamed person who was believed to be a close friend of AKA was also shot and killed.
His passing was also confirmed by AKA's family in a statement released early on Saturday.
AKA was reportedly killed in a drive-by gunshot while he was standing outside the Wish Restaurant.
It's thought that just before 10 p.m., two unidentified automobiles started shooting.
AKA was scheduled to perform at the Durban nightclub YUGO as part of his birthday celebrations, according to social media posts.
His close friends and coworkers have expressed disbelief on social media.
When an IOL team arrived Friday evening, police had already blocked off the area.
Stunned diners at a neighbouring eatery who spoke to IOL reported AKA was shot while standing outside Wish.
Florida Road has been blocked off since the shooting incident on Florida Road, where two persons have been confirmed dead, according to Garrith Jamieson, a spokesman for ALS Paramedics.
A "renowned rapper" was reportedly among the dead, according to Jamieson.
In 2010, AKA's debut studio album, Altar Ego, featured the hit "Victory Lap," which helped him acquire popularity.
His fiancée, Anele Tembe, perished in a fall from the 10th floor of the five-star Pepperclub Hotel in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, in April 2021.
AKA's final social media post, made only hours before he was tragically shot, announced the long-awaited "Mass Country" album's release date as February 24, 2023.
