SPORT: Ralf Rangnick discloses three Manchester United targets the board said "No" to in January
Ralf Rangnick has revealed three Manchester United targets to which the board said 'no' in January.
Upon his arrival at the club in November, it quickly became clear that a managerial change was not enough to turn the tide of the club.
In the winter transfer window, United loaned out Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood became unavailable. With Edinson Cavani struggling with injuries, it made the striker position an issue for United.
"I still think we should have tried in those 48 hours"
Rangnick revealed his interactions with the board on the matter: "The board (at the time) sees it the same way, they conceded, but at the same time, spoke to the scouting department."
"Maybe we should have tried to sign a player in those 48 hours knowing Mason wouldn't be available and Anthony Martial was already on loan. But we didn't."
"The answer back then was: 'No, there is no player on the market who can really help us.'"
He went on to disclose the three targets, all of which have now been snapped up by top clubs.
"There were a few: DÃaz, who is at Liverpool now, Ãlvarez, who will be at Man City in the summer, Vlahovic, who was with Fiorentina at the time."
He finished: "So those are just three of them that come to mind right now. The answer was no and that was it."
