SSANU, NASU begin one-week warning strike
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has started a seven-day warning strike.
In observance of the seven-day warning strike, members of the SSANU at the University of Abuja barred the gate's access on Monday.
Recall that members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, and the SSANU were instructed to begin a seven-day warning strike on Monday (today) by the Joint Action Committee, or JAC.
According to the decree, all institutions will experience a total blackout, clinics and water treatment facilities will close, and everybody involved in the planned matriculations at certain universities is asked to refrain from all activity.
President Bola Tinubu has instructed that university employees who went on a protracted strike in 2022 and whose paychecks were stopped by Muhammadu Buhari's administration following the implementation of the "No work, no pay" policy receive four months' worth of back pay.
The non-teaching staff, which includes SSANU, NASU, and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, has not yet received payment, however members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, have already received salary.
Through JAC, SSANU and NASU expressed their dismay by giving the government an ultimatum, which expired without any response from the administration.
The two unions then threatened to go on strike for seven days starting on March 18 if the government did not comply with their demands.
