Supreme Court affirms Francis Nwifuru as Ebonyi governor
Francis Nwifuru, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, was duly elected governor of Ebonyi State by the Supreme Court.
The PDP's Chukwuma Odii appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in Lagos due to lack of merit, and the ruling was upheld by the highest court.
The election of Nwifuru as the legitimately elected governor of Ebonyi State in the March 18 governorship election was upheld by the Court of Appeal in Lagos last November.
The PDP candidate went to the highest court to seek remedies, but the three-member panel led by Justice Jummai Sankey unanimously rejected Odii's appeal and upheld the tribunal's earlier ruling.
Additionally, the panel addressed each of the five points brought up against the appellant and rejected the appeal due to its lack of merit.
According to Justice Sankey's ruling, the PDP and its candidate did not have the legal authority to interfere with the All Progressives Congress's internal affairs concerning candidate nominations.
In Ebonyi State, the poll on March 18 was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Nwifuru.
Nwifuru defeated Ben Odo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with 52,189 votes and Ifeanyi Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 80,191.
