Suspected killers of retired Major General arrested
A lethal kidnapping syndicate has been apprehended by the Imo State Police Command. They are purportedly accountable for the September 2023 kidnapping and death of retired Major General Richard Duru.
The suspects were paraded at the Imo state capital, Owerri, along with thirty-two other suspected criminals involved in varying degrees of crime throughout the state.
Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer for the command, stated that the men and officers of the command used proactive operational strategies to combat violent crimes and other related offences in the state, which led to the successful outcome of the arrest.
He claimed that one of the major achievements of the command was the capture of the assassins of Major General Richard Duru, Rtd. It was rumoured that Duru was abducted in his black Mercedes along Bishops Court, Area 7, Orji/Uratta Owerri, and that he was killed after his family demanded a $50,000 ransom.
He also said that the gang leader and other terror group members were apprehended after a persistent intelligence gathering effort by the command's anti-kidnapping unit agents, which resulted in the arrest of the general's killers.
One of the suspects, Chukwunonso Emmanuel, from Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, was detained in Lagos while attempting to get a new licence plate for the general's Mercedes Benz vehicle, according to the police public relations officer.
He went on to say that after his detention, Okoroigwe Goodness and Innocent Ogu—the other two gang members—were apprehended and admitted to the crime.
