Tanker accident leaves two dead in Lagos
Two people were killed on Tuesday in a deadly collision involving a tanker and four kekes (also known as tricycles) in the Ikotun neighborhood of Lagos State.
The tragedy happened on Tuesday at 12:30 pm, according to The PUNCH's information.
Four victims were found inside the tricycles by workers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, but the tricycle driver and one passenger perished instantaneously.
According to a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department for LASTMA, the four accident victims who were saved included two pregnant ladies and two kids.
Those rescued victims were promptly turned over by LASTMA personnel to police officers from Ikotun Police Station who transported them to General Hospital for treatment.
The statement added, “A preliminary investigation revealed that the fully loaded container truck (JJJ 125) had a brake failure and crushed three tricycles by a valley around synagogue when going towards Ikotun.
“The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency immediately moved the tanker with those crushed tricycles to Ikotun Police Station.
“Other emergency responders including the Nigerian Police men from Ikotun Police Station were at the scene of the accident.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, however, warned tanker owners and drivers to always ensure that their trucks are properly checked and in good condition before embarking on any journey.â€
