Tenant dies in Lagos apartment
Caleb Chiemele was a renter in the Lekki Phase 1 neighbourhood of Lagos State. His body was found in a short-term rental flat on the LSDPC Estate, off Freedom Way.
Chiemele, who had been residing in the apartment since May 12, had not left it on June 12. Several worried people, including the building's owner, Adewole Olufemi, peeped through the tenant's window out of curiosity to find out how he was doing, but instead saw the tenant lying motionless on the apartment floor.
Police officers from the Maroko Division were notified after they noticed Chiemele was unresponsive.
Officers assigned to look into the matter were called to the flat, where they forcibly opened the door and discovered the deceased tenant.
The body had been removed and placed in the mortuary, according to a source who spoke with our correspondent but asked not to be identified since he was not allowed to speak to the media.
The source said, “The corpse was discovered around 8 pm on June 12, 2024, at a short-let apartment on the LSDPC Estate, off Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1. The short-let was owned by one Adewole Olufemi. He reported to the police that Caleb Chiemele had stayed in his short-let apartment since May 12, 2024.
“But around 5 pm on June 12, they noticed that Caleb had not been seen since the morning and based on that observation, they decided to peep through the windows and they saw him lying on the floor in the apartment.”
The informant claimed that upon informing the police, they went to the flat and discovered the tenant's deceased corpses.
“When the policemen got to the apartment, they had to force their way in as the door was locked. They met him lying down lifeless and subsequently evacuated the corpse to the mortuary,” the source said.
