Terrorists release four kidnapped students and their babies
Four of the remaining 11 students from Birnin Yauri Federal Government College in Kebbi State who were abducted have been freed.
After receiving an undisclosed ransom payment—reportedly in the millions—from the legendary bandit Dogo Gide, they were released along with two infants.
The state government must fulfil a number of requirements on the kingpin's list before the remaining females can be released.
According to PRNigeria, two of the teenagers who were freed brought the children they gave birth to while being held captive.
The parents of the victims implored Nigerians in January to contribute to the funds needed to free the girls. They were one of at least 100 individuals captured in June 2021.
Salim Ka'oje and Daniel Alkali revealed in an open letter that the kidnappers had sought N100 million for the teenagers, who ranged in age from 12 to 16, before releasing them.
The urgent public plea came after reports that the detainees' demands were not met by the Kebbi authorities.
In November 2022, a mother of a kidnapped victim passed away just days after learning that her daughter had given birth in a terrorist hideout.
