Three Akeredolu's aides resign
Following Lucky Aiyedatiwa's appointment as the new governor of Ondo State, at least three political assistants of the late governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, have submitted their letters of resignation.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as governor on Wednesday after Mr. Akeredolu, who had been ill, passed away on December 13. Mr. Aiyedatiwa had been acting as governor since then.
In a letter dated December 27 and sent to the Secretary of the State Government, Adedoyin Odebowale, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, announced his resignation from the position.
Thanking the state for the "rare opportunity for service," Mr. Odebowale announced his resignation with immediate effect.
During the state's political crisis, he led the opposition to Mr. Aiyedatiwa and was a staunch supporter of Mr. Akeredolu.
On Wednesday, Mr. Akeredolu's chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, also turned in his resignation letter.
Given that Ebenezer Adeniyan had been named as Mr. Olatunde's chief press secretary earlier on Wednesday, Mr. Olatunde's resignation was anticipated.
“My decision to resign from office is hinged on the unfortunate and untimely death of our leader, principal and father figure, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON,†the resignation letter read in part.
Dare Aragbaiye, the Governor's Special Advisor on Union Matters and Special Duties, had earlier turned in his resignation letter at the SSG office.
