Three-day dust haze, sunshine across Nigeria— NiMet predicts

From Sunday to Tuesday, there should be sunshine and dust haze nationwide, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

Throughout the forecast period on Sunday, dust hazes are predicted over the northern region by NiMet's Weather Outlook, which was made public on Saturday in Abuja.

NiMet predicts cloudy skies and sunny skies over the North Central region for the duration of the forecast.

“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the inland states of the South and the coastal belt during the morning hours.

“In the afternoon/evening period, localized thunderstorms are expected over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states,” it said.

Throughout the forecast period, the agency anticipated cloudy skies and sunny skies over the country's north and north central regions on Monday.

For the South's inland states and coastal cities, NiMet forecasted cloudy skies with sporadic sunny spells during the morning hours.

Later in the day, the agency predicted isolated thunderstorms over portions of the states of Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

“For Tuesday, sunny and hazy skies are expected over the North and North Central regions

throughout the forecast period.

“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are envisaged over the inland states of the South and the coast in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over most parts of the southern region,” it said.

NiMet reports that dust particles are in suspension, so people should take the appropriate safety measures. People who suffer from asthma or other respiratory conditions should exercise caution due to the current weather conditions.

It warned people that flash floods could occur from moderate to heavy rainfall, so they should exercise the necessary caution and refrain from driving and walking through floodwaters.

“Strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms, the public is advised to take necessary safety precautions.

“Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies and individuals should be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property during the rainy season.

“Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operation, ” it said.
