Three people shot at Benning Road Metro Station in a shootout
Police said that three persons were shot on the platform at the Benning Road Metro station in Northeast Washington on Thursday morning, one of whom was badly wounded.
According to D.C. police and Metro Transit Police, it happened at around nine in the morning following a fight among some young people.
According to D.C. Police Commander Darnell Robinson, a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the thigh may have had life-threatening injuries.
The other two victims of the incident were struck by stray bullets while they were seated on a nearby bench. Another 15-year-old child was wounded in the foot while a 34-year-old woman was struck in the ankle. They weren't the intended targets of the gunfire, according to the police.
Robinson claimed that there are three suspects, all of them are minors. It is unknown how many people were armed or if there were several shooters. He claimed that all three of the suspects—who were all dressed in dark apparel and thick coats—left the area.
Police are still looking into what caused the altercation. Robinson claimed that the 15-year-old, who was shot in the thigh, got into a fight with the three accused.
Robinson suggested that given the timeframe, it is conceivable that the teenagers were en route to school when the incident took place.
The inquiry is being handled by Metro Transit Police.
Trains on the Blue and Silver Lines were avoiding the stop.
