Three UN peacekeepers die in mine explosion in Central Mali
The Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) reported on Tuesday that an artisanal mine explosion in central Mali claimed the lives of three United Nations (UN) peacekeepers.
“A convoy of the MINUSMA Force hit an improvised explosive device (artisanal mine) on Feb. 21.
Preliminary reports indicate that three peacekeepers have been killed and five others have suffered significant injuries, according to a statement from the UN mission, which also pledged to provide more details about the attack.
Since October 3, 2022, there have been 18 attacks in the West African nation, according to MINUSMA, which recorded the losses of four peacekeepers in January.
Mali has been mired in a protracted, multifaceted crisis since 2012 on the levels of security, politics, and economy.
Thousands of people have died and hundreds of thousands more have been displaced throughout the nation as a result of independence insurgencies, Islamist incursions, and inter-communal violence.
