Thugs seize control of protest ground in Port Harcourt
Tuesday saw thugs seize contr8ol of the Rumuokwuta protest site in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, which was utilised for the August #EndBadGovernance demonstration.
The location was previously disclosed as the state's meeting place for the "FearlessInOctober" protest against the nation's economic suffering.
But cane-wielding thugs grabbed control of the area and declared that they wanted no protests in Rivers State. Journalists who ventured to record the goons allegedly faced beatings.
As Nigeria commemorates its 64th anniversary of independence, similar protests are taking place in other sections of the nation, such as Lagos and Abuja.
The demonstrators demand that President Bola Tinubu's administration undo the withdrawal of petrol subsidies and the unification of the currency, two policies they blame for the nation's skyrocketing inflation and cost of living.
