Tinubu approves additional N35,000 wage for FG workers

For a period of six months, all federal employees who are paid by the treasury will get a provisional wage award of N35,000 from President Bola Tinubu.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Malam Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.

This, he claimed, was the result of talks held at the Presidential Villa between the federal government and the union leaders.

The Federal Government also vowed at the meeting to expedite the delivery of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to ease public transport caused by the elimination of PMS subsidy.

Additionally, the federal government promised to provide cash for micro and small businesses and to waive the VAT on diesel for the ensuing six months.

A payout of N75,000 to 15 million households at a rate of N25,000 per month for the three months of October through December was also announced.

The Federal Government pleaded with the labour unions to refrain from going on strike because the issues under contention can only be settled while employees are at work.

To determine the specifics of implementing all government measures to mitigate the effects of the termination of gasoline subsidies, a subcommittee will be established.

The issue involving the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Lagos State will be promptly resolved.

The Federal Government's offers will be taken into consideration by the NLC and TUC with the goal of postponing the strike to allow for more discussions regarding the implementation of the reached resolutions.

Govs. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun and Gov. Abdulrazak Abdulrahman of Kwara, who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), both took part virtually in the meeting, which was presided over by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President.
