Tinubu approves Adekaiyaoja’s appointment as DSS first female deputy DG

Folashade Adekaiyaoja has been appointed deputy director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS) by President Bola Tinubu. Originally from Kogi state, Adekaiyaoja is the first female DSS agent to hold the role.

According to TheCable, the appointment is a part of the president's efforts to restructure the secret police for improved performance, even though the administration has not released an official statement.

Tinubu is ready to bring professionalism back to the service, according to the source, who asked not to be identified because he is not permitted to talk at the appointment.

He went on to say that the appointment, which is the first made by a Nigerian president, also intends to improve career advancement for military members.

The DG of the DSS, endorsed Adekaiyaoja for the position on behalf of National Security Advisor (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu.

The appointment of Adekaiyaoja is regarded as a significant move in the direction of President Tinubu's December 2024 directive to security agencies to suggest methods to enhance service delivery.

In order to fight instability, he had also pledged to provide the DSS and other security organisations with equipment driven by artificial intelligence.
