The University of Maiduguri in Borno State has been renamed Muhammadu Buhari University with the approval of President Bola Tinubu.  

At the conclusion of a special Federal Executive Council meeting honoring Buhari on Thursday at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Tinubu declared, "May we now adopt the University of the Maduguri as the Muhammadu Buhari University."  

The President had already praised Buhari, calling him “a good man, a decent man, an honorable man” whose legacy of moral rectitude, discipline, and patriotism will last for years.  

Despite his shortcomings, Tinubu claimed that the late president stood out for his unshakable dedication to national duty.

“President Buhari was not a perfect man, no leader is, but he was, in every sense of the word, a good man, a decent man, an honourable man.

“His record will be debated, as all legacies are, but the character he brought to public life, the moral force he carried, the incorruptible standard he represented, will not be forgotten.

“His was a life lived in full service to Nigeria, and in fidelity to God,” he said.
