Tinubu authorizes establishment of Federal Polytechnic in Abuja
A Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has received approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a letter dated January 16, 2025, Minister of Education Dr. Olatunji Alausa wrote to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to express Tinubu's support for the creation of the school bearing his name.
Alausa told Wike that Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, has been authorised by the Federal Government to provide entrepreneurial, technical, and vocational training in accordance with the country's educational policy. In the personally signed letter, the Minister asked Wike to recommend potential temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa for the institution's launch.
The technical team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Ministry of Education will be visiting the sites and examining the suggested places, he noted, and clearance would be granted based on the team's recommendations.
In response to the news, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), praised Tinubu for establishing the Federal Polytechnic in Abuja.
In a press release on Tuesday, which was signed by Hon. Kingsley Madaki, his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Maikalangu expressed his sincere gratitude to FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for helping to realise the aspirations of FCT citizens.
He claimed that the Minister's tireless efforts to make the FCT the envy of other cities worldwide would not have resulted in the approval for the construction of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa without the unwavering efforts of Wike, whom he referred to as Mr. Projects, and his mentor.
